Terms & conditions

The short version: we sell hot honey, prices include GST, Stripe handles the money, and your rights under New Zealand consumer law are untouched. The rest is detail.

Last updated 5 August 2026

1. Who these terms are with

Sweet Sting is a New Zealand food business based in Auckland. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Sweet Sting, and "you" means the person placing an order through sweetsting.co.nz.

You can reach us at hello@sweetsting.co.nz. Trade enquiries go to trade@sweetsting.co.nz.

2. Agreeing to these terms

By placing an order, creating a subscription or otherwise using this site, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not order.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when you place your order is the version that applies to that order.

3. Orders

Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed only once we send you an order confirmation and dispatch your goods. Until then we may decline or cancel an order — for example if an item is out of stock, if there has been an obvious pricing error, or if we cannot deliver to the address given.

If we cancel an order you have already paid for, we will refund you in full to the original payment method.

4. Prices and GST

All prices are shown in New Zealand dollars and include GST at the prevailing rate. Shipping, where it applies, is shown separately at checkout before you pay.

We may change prices at any time, but a change will never affect an order we have already confirmed.

5. Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own secure checkout and are handled entirely by Stripe — we never receive them, and we do not store card numbers, expiry dates or security codes on our systems.

Your use of Stripe's checkout is also subject to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.

6. Subscriptions

If you start a subscription, you authorise us (through Stripe) to charge your saved payment method at the frequency you chose, at the price shown when the subscription starts, until you cancel.

You can cancel or change a subscription at any time before the next billing date. Cancelling stops future deliveries and charges; it does not refund deliveries that have already been dispatched.

If we change subscription pricing, we will tell you before the change takes effect and you will have the chance to cancel.

7. Delivery

We ship within New Zealand only. Dispatch and delivery timeframes, shipping rates and what happens if something arrives damaged are set out on our Shipping & Returns page, which forms part of these terms.

Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery to the address you gave us. Please make sure that address is correct — we are not able to redirect a parcel once it has been collected by the courier.

8. It's food

Our sauces contain honey, chilli and apple cider vinegar. Honey should not be given to infants under 12 months. Some products in the range are genuinely hot; please use your judgement, and check the label if you have allergies or dietary requirements.

Store as directed on the label, and use by the best-before date printed on the bottle.

9. Your rights under New Zealand consumer law

Where you buy as a consumer, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 gives you guarantees that goods are of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and match their description. Nothing in these terms limits, excludes or modifies those guarantees, or your rights under the Fair Trading Act 1986.

If something is wrong with what we sent you, contact us and we will put it right — a replacement, a refund or a repair as appropriate to the problem.

Where you acquire goods from us for the purposes of a business, the parties agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply and that sections 9, 12A and 13 of the Fair Trading Act do not apply, to the extent permitted by those Acts.

10. Trade and wholesale orders

Wholesale ordering runs through Upstock. Trade orders are subject to our wholesale terms and the terms of the Upstock platform rather than these retail terms, although sections 9 and 12 still apply.

11. Our content

The Sweet Sting name, logo, label artwork, photography, recipes and site copy belong to us. You are welcome to share and link to them; please don't reproduce them commercially or pass them off as your own without asking first.

12. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, and without limiting your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act, our total liability in connection with any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

We do not promise that this website will be available uninterrupted or free of errors.

13. Privacy

How we handle your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which is written around the Privacy Act 2020.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

15. Getting in touch

Questions about these terms, or about an order? Email hello@sweetsting.co.nz or use the contact form on our Customer Care page. Two of us read it, and we reply to everything.
